Why Hospice Guidebook exists

As the head of marketing for two investment firms, I first learned about the senior housing crisis while promoting products aimed at helping solve it. The numbers are staggering: over 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day, and the number of seniors turning 80 will double in the next 12 years — an unprecedented demographic shift that's creating massive demand for senior living, and, by extension, hospice care.

My own parents fit into that category, and I wanted to make sure that if the time ever came, I had a resource to find compassionate care built on data — not on how well a hospice markets itself. I started Hospice Guidebook with the hope that as our loved ones get older and need these resources, this directory helps families make an objective and informed decision.

What we actually do

Hospice Guidebook aggregates real, federally-reported quality data — HCI scores and CAHPS caregiver ratings — for nearly 6,900 Medicare-certified hospice providers nationwide, and puts it in one searchable place. Most families choosing hospice care do it under real time pressure, often without knowing what questions to ask or where to find honest answers. This directory exists so that search doesn't have to be harder than it already is.

How we're funded, honestly

Hospice Guidebook is a for-profit business. Providers can pay for an enhanced listing, and that revenue is what keeps this directory running, current, and free for the families who use it. We think that's a fair trade — but we also think you deserve to know exactly how it works, which is why we wrote a separate page explaining precisely what a paid listing does and doesn't affect. Short version: subscriptions can't touch the CMS quality data itself, and they can't override what you explicitly search for.
